Purpose of Global Walk For No Poverty

  • To raise funds to build schools for underprivileged children in least developed countries by conducting fundraising events in schools and colleges with the support of educational institutes, nonprofit organizations, and government organizations. The funds collected in India will be allocated to building schools in Burundi for underprivileged students, serving as a heartfelt expression of love from India. 


  • Additionally, this campaign aims to promote and emphasize the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 1 - No Poverty, as part of the 2030 Agenda. And also this campaign aims to inspire students and the public to engage in initiatives which contribute to the global objective of achieving 'No Poverty by 2030' Agenda.

Nearly 60 years ago, Mr. Sathish Kumar and Mr. Menon who walked for more than 8,000 miles to the capitals of four nuclear-armed countries - Washington, D. C., London, Paris, and Moscow, beginning from Mahatma Gandhi's Grave and ending on John F. Kennedy's Grave Making it into the Kremlin, 10 Downing Street, and the White House didn't make as much of an impression on Mr. Sathish Kumar as the cup of tea he shared with Martin Luther King, Jr. They called it a Walk For Peace.

Plan to reach out to 195 Countries

The starting point of Global Walk For No Poverty Journey was Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Memorial in Rameswaram, TN, India. The plan is to walk over 40 km each day for approximately 10 years, covering over 40 km x 365 days x 10 years. The initiative aims to reach out to 195 countries and meet political leaders to emphasize the Poverty Eradication -  Sustainable Development Goal and to raise fund to build Schools in Least Developed Countries.


The journey will conclude at the same Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Memorial in Rameswaram, India, by December 31, 2035.

During the Global Walk for No Poverty, Govind Chandra successfully covered 350 km on foot from Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Memorial in Rameshwaram, Tamil Nadu, to the Kerala Legislative Assembly. There, he met with Hon. Chief Minister of Kerala, Pinarayi Vijayan, to emphasize the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 1, which focuses on the agenda of 'No Poverty by 2030.' This initiative also highlights the importance of fundraising for education as a crucial component in combating poverty.

Covered a total walking distance of 950 km during a walk for poverty eradication, reached the Puducherry Legislative Assembly. There, I met with Hon. Chief Minister of Puducherry, N. Rangaswamy, to emphasize the importance of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 1, which advocates for 'No Poverty by 2030' and aligns with our efforts in fundraising for education.

Covered a total walking distance of 1100 km during the walk for poverty eradication and reached the Tamil Nadu Secretariat, where I met Hon. Additional Chief Secretary to Government, Ramesh Chand Meena, from the Planning and Development Department, TN. The purpose of this initiative was to emphasize the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 1 - the agenda of 'No Poverty by 2030'.

About Govind Chandra

Govind Chandra is from School Education Background with 11 years of experience. From 2023 to 2024, he contributed to the World Pledge Project, which was associated with the Department of Private School Education under the Ministry of Education in Qatar, focusing on sustainable development goals. During the previous year, 2022 to 2023, he served as a Robotics Academic Advisor at Scholasys Educational Consultancy in Doha, Qatar, where he engaged in conducting Robotics Competition Events. Prior to that, from 2012 to 2022, he held the position of Robotics Academic Senior Trainer at LSCL Robotics Pvt Ltd in Bangalore, India.
